- Sparta already secured Round of 16 qualification
- Both teams on three-game winning streaks
- Sparta unbeaten at home so far in the CHL
Sparta Prague continue to impress in this year’s Champions Hockey League, sitting near the top of the standings after a strong regular season campaign. The Czech side have already secured their place in the Round of 16 thanks to four wins from five games.
They opened with a 4-1 win in Klagenfurt, stumbled in Norway against Storhamar Hamar, but have since built strong momentum - defeating former CHL Champions Luleå Hockey in a shootout, Frölunda Gothenburg 4-2, and most recently edging ZSC Lions Zurich 2-1 on the road. With Mārtiņš Dzierkals and Roman Horák driving the attack and Josef Kořenář steady in goal, Sparta look every bit the contender they were predicted to be.
Grenoble, meanwhile, have staged one of the most impressive turnarounds of the season so far. After a slow start with defeats to SC Bern and EV Zug, the French champions have hit their stride with three straight victories.
A wild 8–5 win over Pinguins Bremerhaven sparked their resurgence, followed by a stunning comeback triumph in Berlin and a 7–4 thriller over Lausanne HC on home ice. Captain Sacha Treille has been at the heart of their revival, supported by François Beauchemin and Christophe Boivin, as Grenoble climbed to mid-table with eight points from five outings.
Tuesday’s clash in Prague will feature two teams in strong form but with different pressures. Sparta can play with freedom, already assured of progression, but still looking to rise the standings for a better Round of 16 match-up, while Grenoble face a points-grabbing scenario to keep their Playoff hopes alive. With both sides in rhythm and capable of explosive hockey, it promises to be another compelling night of CHL action in the Czech capital.
