- KalPa's consistency has been a big part of their success
- Klagenfurt need to find a way to maintain the advantage when they have it
- The Finns currently sport the best goals for and second-best goals against average
KalPa Kuopio managed to maintain their perfect record as they etched a 5-1 win over Czech side Mountfield HK. Juuso Mäenpää notched his first of two points on the night when he sniped one on the powerplay and the Finns took complete control from there. KAC Klagenfurt, however, were stunned by a GKS Tychy club that never waivered and were able to manufacture their first win off the back of excellent netminding, taking Klagenfurt 4-1.
The Austrians have seen their fair share of leads slip away, momentum shift in their opponents' favour, and missed opportunities, and it was the same case last Wednesday night when it looked like everything was going their way until it wasn't. Nicholas Petersen drew first blood for the club in the dying seconds of the middle frame, and from there it seemed Klagenfurt would come out buzzing. Instead, they encountered excellent netminding and four unanswered tallies from the opposition.
Going forward, Klagenfurt need to find ways to maintain the advantage when they have it. Their 3.40 goals against average and poor powerplay conversion - one tally on 17 attempts - needs addressing, but among the many things this team can look into, their ability to take the lead and keep it is pivotal.
KalPa, on the other hand, have been mostly dominant in most areas. Besides a couple of close calls, they've been handily defeating their opponents by significant margins, their latest fixture against Mountfield HK included. For the Finns, it seems their biggest asset has been their consistency in both the offensive zone and the defensive zone.
As of now, they sit in first place with 4.20 goals for and in second place with 1.40 goals against per game. With such commanding performances on a consistent basis, expect nothing less as they go up against a Klagenfurt squad.
