- KalPa continue to be one of the teams to beat this season
- Salzburg look to get back on track after first loss
- Offence will be the key factor in this contest as both clubs' defences have been excellent
KalPa Kuopio improved their record to 3-0 on the season after a dominating 6-1 win over Storhamar Hamar. Meanwhile, Red Bull Salzburg experienced their first setback of the 2025/26 Champions Hockey League season, as the Austrian participants found themselves on the losing side of things with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Ilves Tampere.
Salzburg's offence hasn't displayed their usual dominance of late, despite some surprise showings. Thomas Raffl has two tucks and two assists for four points through three games, one point shy of his total last season in ten contests. But their leading scorer from last season, Peter Schneider, has been underwhelming - only producing two assists in three games; a farcry from his 12 points in ten tilts last year.
Getting more from their top guys will certainly help Salzburg as they are still a very disciplined team on the backend, only allowing 1.67 Goals Against, while their netminding continues to be terrific with both Atte Tolvanen and David Kickert sporting above 90% in save percentage and decent GAAs with Tolvanen's 1.51 and Kickert's 2.00.
KalPa have been experiencing their best season to date in their CHL tenure, orchestrating a 3-0 record and being amongst the best on both sides of the puck. They are currently second only to Frölunda Gothenburg in Goals Against with 1.33 per game, and are slightly behind Kometa Brno in Goals For with 4.33. Maintaining those kinds of numbers while deploying players like Cade Borchardt (2G, 2A) means a fourth victory isn't out of reach for the Finns.
