- Stingy defence helped Lukko in opener
- Bolzano still searching for first goal of season
- Lukko beat Bolzano in 2021/22 Round of 16
HC Bolzano’s trip of northern Europe continues as they travel from the west coast of Sweden to the west coast of Finland, where they’ll visit Lukko Rauma for a Sunday matinée. Both of these teams were on opposite sides of three-goal scores in their openers on Friday.
Lukko fell behind early to visiting Lausanne HC before rallying back to win 4-1. Alex Beaucage had a goal and an assist and Steven Jandric scored on a penalty shot. Lukko limited a skilled Swiss team to just 18 shots on goal with homecoming veteran Antti Raanta stopping 17 of them.
Bolzano, on the other hand, were shut out 3-0 by Frölunda Gothenburg, although it was a very respectable effort that was 2-0 before a late empty-netter. Samuel Harvey stopped 32 of 34 shots that he faced, while defencemen Mark Barberio and Maxwell Heston Gildon each logged more than 20 minutes of ice time, with Gildon registering a team-high four shots on goal.
These two teams have met once before in the Champions Hockey League, in the Round of 16 back in 2021/22.
