This contest features former Champions Hockey League Champions Genève-Servette lining up against German challengers Eisbären Berlin in the first-ever meeting between these two clubs. The DEL champions have a long history in the CHL and are looking to improve upon their shock early exit from last year. Meanwhile, Genève finished their season in the Swiss National League in third place and as a result were able to punch their ticket to their sixth CHL appearance.

Berlin, fresh off securing their 27th national title, are looking for a bounce-back this year. A Game Day 1 win against Storhamar Hamar was followed up by five consecutive losses in 2025/26 and that saw them crash out of the Regular Sesaon in unexpected fashion. This performance was a far cry from what we've come to expect from the Germans and now they are hungry to redeem themselves. This season-opening match-up against the Swiss side will be a good measure to see what we should expect from Berlin in their ninth campaign on Europe's biggest club ice hockey stage.

For their part, Genève's last taste of CHL action came in 2024/25, where they made it all the way to the Semi-Finals where they were dealt the loss by fellow Swiss competitors, and eventual champions of the season, ZSC Lions Zurich. It's only been a couple of years since they were crowned CHL Champions and their track record in the pan-European competition is extremely positive. With this in mind, it's fair to have high expectations from a squad that's only experienced three regulation losses in the past 25 CHL matches.
