- Both sides lost on Game Day 1
- Herning scored two goals, SaiPa just one
- Home crowd in Herning loving the CHL
After making their Champions Hockey League debut just a few days ago, reigning Danish champions Herning Blue Fox will get their second taste of pan-European hockey action when they welcome SaiPa Lappeenranta from Finland. Both these sides lost on Game Day 1 and will be looking to get back to winning ways before they head into the second week of CHL action.
Herning faced KooKoo Kouvola, a fellow CHL newcomer, on their debut and played a stellar game against the Finns despite a harsh 2-5 end results. The Danes outshot their visitors, were more productive, stronger on face-offs and controlled large portions of the game. They were slightly let down by the productivity of their forwards and hindered further by a strong performance from the KooKoo goalie. Heading into their second gmae in a row against a Finnish opponent, Herning will look to build on their encounter with KooKoo and seek a decisive touch up front. They are definitely within reach of a win in this one!
SaiPa always knew their return to the Champions Hockey League for the first time since 2016/17 was going to be tough, but getting drawn to face the reigning CHL Champs on the road on Game Day 1 is extra tough. Despite the tough game, and even tougher 1-6 loss, the Finns were not on the ice to look pretty. The stats show they were well within reach of more goals, ending the night very close on shots on goal, face-offs won and other key stats. Similarly to Herning, they were let down by a lack of energy up front and in SaiPa's case also some poor special-team play.
Both teams have a foundation to build on as they look to turn their seasons around as quickly as possible - don't miss this one!
