Kölner Haie – one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the Champions Hockey League – host the Herning Blue Fox – one of three teams still searching for a win in the competition. The Sharks have already secured a Playoff position but still need points in their quest for the Regular Season Winners crown.
Cologne’s CHL season so far has been truly impressive, taking 9 of 10 possible points so far, scoring 18 goals, which is tied for second-highest, and a CHL-record crowd in their home opener. They are led offensively by the CHL’s Top 3 scorers so far: Marcel Noebels with 11 points, followed by Danish legend Patrick Russell and Gregor MacLeod with nine each. Noebels’ seven goals and MacLeod’s eight assists also lead the competition.
Herning have one point so far from a shootout loss to Bílí Tygři Liberec. One area where the Danish champs have excelled is in physical play – they lead the CHL with 9.25 hits per game. Herning have relied heavily on their top defensive pair, with John Terrance Amorosa and Emil Løjborg Kristensen logging the most ice time in the CHL at over 24 minutes each per game. The team’s scoring leader is Jared Kyle Dmytriw with three points – all assists.
