- Munich have to find a way to stop Lino Martschini
- EV Zug will look to capitalise on the visitors' penalties this time round
- Red Bulls won in Bern last season
After an enthralling first leg of hockey between these two sides, it’s safe to say that there isn’t a whole lot that the second leg can’t offer…if you’re an EV Zug fan that is. Visitors Red Bull Munich didn’t complete a fairy-tale comeback that day however they did reduce a two goal deficit to one, giving them every opportunity to provide their travelling fans with a curtain call of their own.
In the National League, EV Zug have leapfrogged SC Bern into third place following their game with Munich and are only a point away from claiming the top spot. Their last game doesn’t make good reading for Munich fans after Lino Martschini scored twice and assisted a goal, as his team beat the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 7-2.
The German side still find themselves chasing the top spot in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga after suffering a 4-3 overtime loss to the Schwenningen Wild Wings, who’re currently bottom of the league. They recovered from that setback with a victory of their own over the Straubing Tigers to maintain the pressure on leaders Adler Mannheim. Forward Maximilian Kastner will try to translate his domestic point per game ratio into the tournament, while standout teammate Trevor Parkes must reignite the scoring spark he that he discovered in the Group Stage.
Munich do have one reason to be positive though - last season they won in Swtizerland against SC Bern in the Round of 16. While they went on to lose at home, a repeat performance in Zug would at least sent the game into overtime.
