Last week in Hradec Králové, SC Bern could have secured their place in the next round and eliminated Mountfield HK. However, Mountfield came up with a big 5-4 win to stay alive and put themselves in decent shape heading into the last group game in the Swiss capital. Mountfield need just a win of any kind to advance and might also with an overtime or shootout loss, depending on the outcome of the TPS Turku-Nottingham Panthers game.
“We have to win it so that we don’t get eliminated. We’ll want to play our game as always and win,” said Mountfield goalie Patrik Rybár, coming off a 2-0 shutout win of Vítkovice Ostrava in Czech domestic action. After a slow start to the season, winning is something Mountfield have being doing a lot lately, with a string of four straight – three Extraliga and one CHL.
“We need to come out harder than them. We need a good start, we need to get the lead and we need three points in Bern,” said Bern forward Simon Moser.
Moser is right about needing three points – that’s what they need to advance. Fortunately, they do a lot of winning at home. Bern won each of the first two Group F games at home, and have won five of six Swiss National League games at PostFinance Arena as well.
