With a spot in their fourth Champions Hockey League final up for grabs, the Frölunda Indians have to get past HC Pilsen as the two sides meet for the first leg of their semi-final matchup.

Frölunda have being crowned champions on two of their previous three visits to the grand final and they’ll be looking to make it four appearances, while this is the furthest Pilsen have managed to get in their CHL journey so far, and given their CHL record so far they’ll be confident of causing an upset over the side who currently lead the Swedish Hockey League.

To get to this stage, Frölunda topped Group A, before defeating HC Lugano and Kometa Brno in the knockout rounds.

Pilsen as well have had a great campaign so far,  topping Group H, before a huge win against HC Bolzano in the first knockout round, then a narrow victory against Skellefteå AIK to make the semis.

Since the semi-finals ended in early December, both sides have returned to domestic action, the Frölunda taking four wins in their six games that followed their last CHL outing, while Pilsen have five wins out of seven, including three straight including a huge 11 - 1 victory over HC Pardubice.

Frölunda have been without top scorer Ryan Lasch lately, but will tonight be able to again call on the services offormer CHL MVP who currently leads the entire competition with 17 points in 10 games.

While Pilsen's leading scorer Milan Gulasš is ready to go, there are however questions marks over David Stach, who’s been excellent in his second ever CHL campaign with 11 points through 10 games, who missed Sunday's win in Zlin. Jakub Kindl has been sidelined recently and is expected to be for a while longer.

While both sides have solid forwards to rely upon, it could be one of the best netminder battles of the season with both sides boating some of the most impressive defensive records in the tournament.

Dominik Frodl and Dmitri Milchakov have split time for Pilsen to great effect while Johan Mattsson and Johan Gustafsson have done just as well for Frölunda.
