After one game each, Klagenfurt lead Group H after getting three points in Gap, while Frolunda took only two from Zurich. However, there’s no doubt about who the favourite is when the two teams meet in Gothenburg. Despite both winning, both teams have some things that they’d like to do better in their second games.
“We got into some penalty trouble and that let them back into the game,” KAC coach Steve Walker said after he watched his team’s 4-1 lead dwindle to 4-3. “We were 3-on-5 twice there, and anytime that happens you can get yourself in trouble, but obviously we have to stay out of the box against Frolunda - if you give them too many power plays, they’ll bury you.”
For their part, it took Frölunda a while to get going in their first game against Zurich, which they finally won in overtime. Heading into their second game, they definitely want to get off to a better start.
“We started pretty sloppy and lost a lot of pucks at the offensive blueline. We managed to get it deep in the second and third periods, worked them down low, and got some goals on the power play,” said forward Victor Olofsson, who scored two goals against Zurich. Against Klagenfurt: “I think we have to be way sharper about getting the puck down deep earlier in the game, so we don’t end up with too many turnovers.”
