Both sides picked up all the points in their first games of this Champions Hockey League campaign, and with Karpat sitting top of Group F on goal difference, the Ice Tigers will hope to cause an upset against the 2015-16 CHL runners up.
"German teams have improved greatly over recent years. The DEL is full of top teams and the Ice Tigers are one of them"Mikko Manner (Head Coach, Kärpät Oulu)
Karpat didn’t seem to face too much trouble against French champions the Rouen Dragons, as Jussi Rynnas posted a 23 save shutout, the first of this year’s CHL season. Two-point nights from Lasse Kukkonen, Jarl Sailio and Los Angeles Kings draft pick Rasmus Kupari were pivotal in ensuring Karpat took the three points in their opening game, and they’ll come into game day four top of Group F.
"They've won three championships in five years, that tell us about the quality of this team"Kevin Gaudet (Head Coach, THOMAS SABO Ice Tiger)
With a lot of pressure in their first ever CHL game, the THOMAS SABO Ice Tigers have netminder Niklas Treutle to thank after he turned away 39 of the 40 shots he faced, as well as a two goal first period with goals from Eugen Alanov and Leonhard Pföderl, were enough help the side stave off a solid attack from Mountfield and secure a first CHL win for the side that have finished third in the DEL for the last two seasons.
