The Växjö Lakers are looking in good shape right now in Group E after taking 5 of 6 points in their first two away games against Bílí Tygři Liberec and HC Davos. Now they play the same two teams at home, starting with Davos, and if they duplicate that feat they will secure a spot in the next round.

“I hope we get good crowds,” Lakers coach Sam Hallam said, looking ahead to the two games at home. “We can pretty much secure our way into the playoffs, so they’re big games for us and hopefully we have a couple of our injured players back.”

As for Davos, their situation isn’t disastrous after taking 3 of 6 points against the Cardiff Devils and Växjö, but they would surely like to earn some points in Sweden to improve their overall chances of advancing. To do that, they’ll have to be much better against the Lakers than they were on Sunday.

“There were two things we spoke about in the locker room that were important and we didn’t do either one of them correctly,” Davos coach Arno Del Curto said following the home loss to Växjö. “We didn’t take advantage of our 5-on-4 and 5-on-3 chances, which you can’t do against Swedish teams, and the other thing was when we had quality scoring chances we didn’t bury them.”
