- Three wins for SC Bern so far put them top of Group G
- Cardiff Devils still searching for first win, but grabbed a point in the first meeting
- Andrew Ebbett was the overtime hero for Bern in the team’s first clash with Cardiff
With eight points at the top of Group G of the Champions Hockey League, SC Bern will be looking to keep their unbeaten record alive when they welcome the Cardiff Devils to town, with a win and other results going their way potentially securing qualification already.
It took overtime for SC Bern to get the win over the Devils last weekend, the only point they've dropped all tournament long, with two close wins over the Växjö Lakers.
So far in this tournament, Bern have won all three of their games by just one goal, and after a close fought game in Cardiff last week, they'll be out to assert their dominance from the start on Saturday night.
They'll rely on the great netminding of Leonardo Genoni who's averaging less than two goals against per game so far, and he was fantastic in the first meeting with the Devils, as you'd expect from a netminder of his calibre. Andrew Ebbett was the hero last weekend, and he's been one of the most reliable members of the team with three points in as many games while Thomas Rufenacht and Jan Mursak both have two goals in the tournament as they've faced some very skilled goalies.
One of those skilled goalies they've faced is Ben Bowns of the Cardiff Devils, who will at times has been a bit shaky, he's made some incredible saves and has been heavily relied upon for the side.
On Thursday night the Devils suffered their third straight defeat, once again at the hands of Red Bull Salzburg, but despite being in a tough group and the odds stacked against them, Cardiff have held their own in each of the three games so far but are unfortunate to only have one point to show for their efforts.
Newly-signed Mike Hedden has hit the ground running for the Welsh side, leading the team in goals with three, while returning player Matt Pope leads the team in points overall with four assists.
