Last week, Mannheim won 6-2 in Esjberg, but the game wasn’t as one-sided as the score indicates - Esbjerg led 2-1 in the second period and it was still a 3-2 game entering the third period before Die Adler broke it open. Devin Setoguchi led the way with two goals and two assists. Now, the two teams wrap up their group stage with the return meeting in Mannheim.
“It’s an important game for us tomorrow. We’ve qualified, but it would be nice to be top of the group. Our goal is to win tomorrow's game, but it won’t be easy. They are a good team, they play good, they are the Danish champions, so we have to be ready to go,” Mannheim head coach Sean Simpson said on Monday.
“It’s never easy going down there in front of all their fans and the good team that they have, so we’ve gotta go down there and do our best. That’s all we can ask of our guys,” said Esbjerg head coach Mark Pederson.
For Esbjerg, it will be their last game of this CHL season, but they hope to finish with a win. As for Mannheim, they have already qualified for the next round but still need to secure first place - one point will take care of that.
