Kometa Brno got two goals in the first period on Niko Hovinen, two more in the third on Denis Godla, and got a 31-save performance from Marek Čiliak to beat KalPa Kuopio 4-2. With six points from their first two games on the road, they now lead Group B by themselves.
Kometa started strong, with Lukáš Nahodil firing a hard slapper off the crossbar at 7:19, and then scoring two goals quickly thereafter. Jan Káňa went top corner from in front, and then Vojtěch Němec fired a slapper from the point.
Alexander Ruuttu got one back for KalPa in the 12th minute, taking advantage of a turnover in the Kometa zone, and then the home team maintained an edge in play but didn’t manage to pull even until early in the third period, when Eetu Luostarinen beat Čiliak from right in front.
Back on their heels, it looked like Kometa would be lucky to get the game to overtime, but Jan Hruška scored the game-winner with 5:19 left on one-timer on a beautiful feed from Tomáš Vincour, and Martin Zaťovič added a late insurance marker on a breakaway.
