A big win in their first Champions Hockey League road game for Brynäs IF, both in terms of the scoreboard and the overall situation in Group G to keep them just a point behind Red Bull Munich at the top.
In what was a very even first period, the deadlock was eventually broken just seven seconds from time - Jesper Jensen the recipient of a great pass from Kevin Clark to give his side the one goal lead at the break.
Into the middle period and a pretty disastrous spell for the home side. Johan Alcén was given too much room in the slot to deflect home at 22:34, and then Louie Caporusso completed the 2-on-1 after another great pass from Clark to make it 3-0. All three of Brynäs's goals came inside a 10-minute spell across two periods.
A Saku Salmela slap shot from the point got IFK on the board on the power play with 47:20 gone, but just 56 seconds later the visitors were back three ahead - Aaron Palushaj with a nice move to make it 4-1 and delight the small group of visiting fans in the corner of the rink. Oliwer Kaski pulled another goal back for Helsinki at 56:35, before an empty-netter from Linus Ölund but the game to bed with 23 seconds to go.
“It was an unbelievable pass from Kevin Clark. He was able to suck the defenceman in and saucer it to me. I told Jesper (Jensen) ‘I saw what you did and tried to copy it’.”Louie Caporusso, forward, Brynäs IF, describing his goal which was similar to Jensen's
“A good start and good first period, but then we fell asleep in the last shift of the period. We never got over that.”Jarkko Malinen, forward, IFK Helsinki
