The Växjö Lakers take the lead in Group E after a 3-0 win in Davos. Erik Josefsson was in on all three goals, scoring in the first two and assisting on the third, while Viktor Fasth was fantastic in goal, stopping all 33 shots he faced for the shutout.
The first goal was a strange one, as the puck came out of the air and hit Pontus Netterberg in the leg. He quickly shot it and Josefsson got his stick on it to direct it past Gilles Senn.
“We got the first goal, that was important for us, especially against Davos, who can be very difficult to play against when they have the lead. Playing with the lead meant we could play more defensively.”Sam Hallam, head coach, Växjö Lakers
The second and third goals both came in the second period, and both on the power play. First, it was Josefsson on a one-time slapper from the slot, and then a few minutes later on a 5-on-3, Tuomas Kiiskinen put in a rebound in front.
Although there was still half a game to play at that point, the Lakers did a fantastic job of playing defensively, and not really letting Davos get too many dangerous chances. They did get a 2-on-1 with less than five minutes to go, but Mark Weiser just wasn’t able to finish what looked to be a sure goal.
