French side Gap Rapaces almost caused an almighty shock in tonight’s Champions Hockey League, despite their game against Frölunda Indians not having any baring on the group for either side.
The home side went into the first break leading the defending champions 1-0 after Loïc Farnier beat Johan Mattsson from a ridiculous angle along the boards with 14:01 played.
Frölunda, looking to protect a CHL winning streak that goes back to last season’s Round of 32, took until 26:16 to tie the game – future NHL prospect Rasmus Dahlin showing the offensive side to the game to tie things up at one each after 40 minutes. Lias Andersson then got Frolunda ahead with a poacher’s goal at the top of the crease with just over 49 minutes of the game gone, and despite some late chances for the home side, Pontus Widerström calmly out-waited the Gap defenceman to score on the empty net with 29 seconds to go.
