A 3-2 win was not enough for Tappara Tampere as they lost out on aggregate to JYP Jyväskylä 5-4 over the two legs.
Tappara got the perfect start, taking the lead with just 3:12 played through Kristian Kuusela. That lead, and therefore being only a goal down on aggregate, was held into the break up until 22:17, when JYP got on the board through Antti Soumela to put his side back two ahead overall.
With five minutes left in the middle period the visitors got themselves an insurance marker – Mikko Kalteva scoring what would prove to be the matchup-winning goal to make it 1-2 on the night.
Tappara didn’t give it up though. With just over 10 minutes left, Jan-Mikael Järvinen had them level on the night, and a little under five minutes later Jukka Peltola had Tappara only a goal behind on aggregate – both markers on the PP. Tappara had the goalie out with 40 seconds to play, but JYP held on to book their play in the Quarter-Finals.
