A point was enough to give KAC Klagenfurt a fighting chance going into next week's game in Switzerland, but the overtime win was the icing on the cake as they beat the ZSC Lions 2-1 in Corinthia.
The hosts knew they needed to take something from the game to keep Gameday 6 a live rubber, and in a drab opening period were the ones to break the deadlock – Julian Talbot racing through shorthanded to fire home at 12:42.
The Lions gradually began to dominate the game more but were not creating many scoring chances out of their possession. No goals through the next 20 minutes saw the game head to the third with only one goal in it, and eventually, late pressure from the visitors and one too many penalties on the hosts told, as Chris Baltisberger tied the game at 54:43.
KAC, to their credit, were the better team in the latter stages of the third period and unlucky not to find a winner in regulation. With the game going to the extra period, it didn't take long for the result to be decided – Martin Scumnig finding himself on a breakaway and picking his sport perfectly to win the game.
