Both of these teams knew they were through to the next round before this game, which was only about deciding which would finish first and which would finish second. The Malmö Redhawks needed to win in regulation time to make that happened, and that’s what they did. They got one goal in the second period and two in the third, and Cristopher Nilstorp made 17 saves for the shutout.
The two teams played a very defensively most of the way, and it remained scoreless until just shy of the game’s midpoint when Nashville Predators prospect Karel Vejmelka made the initial save, but Christoffer Forsberg took the rebound and made a nice move to his backhand to put it in.
Needing only a point to get first place, Kometa’s chances were still very much alive until midway through the third period, when Malte Setkov held the puck in the high slot, then fired a wrister to make it 2-0. In the final minute, an empty-netter from Fredrik Händemark put the game away, bringing top spot in the group to Malmö.
"It feels really good to win the group. We played well and pressured them a lot. It’s going to be really fun to play in the playoffs and to play against new teams around Europe."Christoffer Forsberg, forward, Malmö Redhawks
