Adler Mannheim secured top spot in Group D with a 4-1 win over Esbjerg Energy in front of 6,794 fans at SAP Arena. Defenceman Aaron Johnson had a goal and two assists for Mannheim.
Die Adler scored twice in the first period, first Luke Adam on the power play and then Markus Kink at even strength. Taylor Fleming got one back for Esbjerg in the second period, but Mannheim put it away with two more in the third. Chad Kolarik restored the two-goal lead early in the final frame, and then Johnson scored while his team was two men short, making a nice backhand move to the backhand on Nicolaj Henriksen.
