Red Bull Munich recovered from an early setback to take an impressive 4-1 over IFK Helsinki in Bavaria.
The visitors from Finland came out hard and took the lead with only a minute played thanks to Juha-Pekka Haataja on the power play. It took 10 minutes for the home side to reply - the goal eventually coming through Konrad Abeltshauser with 11:28 gone.
Some 10 minutes later, and into the middle period, the Red Bulls then took the lead with IFK two men down - Derek Joslin the scorer at 22:32. In a pattern of scoring almost every 10 minutes, the home fans had to wait only a little longer for the next Munich goal. With 35:15 played, Brooks Macek gave the home side some breathing space.
IFK pushed for a way back into the game in the final period and had the goalie pulled with just under four minutes to go. However, some late penalties eventually saw Jonathan Matsumoto end the scoring at 59:36 on a 5-on-3 to give Munich the 4-1 win.
