It was a record-setting afternoon for ZSC Lions Zurich, who scored a CHL-record 11 goals and got a record 7 points from Patrik Pettersson, on the strength of 2 goals on 5 assists. Pettersson’s favourite target was Pius Suter, who equalled a CHL record with 4 goals, while Fabrice Herzog scored twice.

It took a while for the ZSC scoring machine to get moving, with Pettersson setting up Suter at the backdoor for an easy tap-in at 12:32, and then Pettersson scoring himself on the power play three minutes later to make it 2-0. When Shawn Hulshof finished off a nice passing play for a Gap power-play goal in the last minute of the opening period, it looked like the French team might make a competitive game of it.

However, Suter’s second of the game in the 26th minute on a Zurich power play restored the two-goal lead and things snowballed from there, as the Lions pumped in six more goals in the middle frame to lead 9-1 after 40 minutes.

The Lions rounded out the scoring with two more goals in the third period. It was the 10th goal that gave Suter his fourth goal and Pettersson his seventh point, with the latter shooting from the boards and the former deflecting it in front.
