- Zug came from behind to win 3-2 in Brno on Gameday 5
- As a result, Zug will finish 1st in the group and Brno will finish 2nd, regardless of what happens on Gameday 6
- Czech side won both meetings in last season's Round of 16
Last Tuesday’s game between EV Zug and Kometa Brno took a dramatic turn at the end, resulting in Zug securing top spot in Group D. Later that same night, Eisbären Berlin’s win over Neman Grodno also secured Brno’s spot in the Round of 16, meaning that both teams are advancing and neither team’s position in the group can change on Gameday 6.
Since last Tuesday’s game, Zug lost 3-0 in Bern, then won 4-2 on home ice against Biel. They currently find themselves in a three-way tie for third place in the Swiss National League with SCL Tigers Langnau and ZSC Lions Zurich. Brno, meanwhile, are in a three-way tie for third place in the Czech Extraliga with Sparta Prague and HC Litvínov. Since last week’s game, they have won against Litvínov and Vítkovice Ostrava.
As these teams prepare to do battle again, we know that it will not be the last CHL game for either one of them this season.
