- Lukáš Cingel scored the game winner in OT
- Michael Lindqvist tied the game late for Färjestad
- Mountfield advance to the Quarter-Finals for second time
More than seven minutes into OT, Lukáš Cingel scored the game-winner to send Mountfield HK to the Quarter-Finals for the second time as they defeated Färjestad Karlstad, who still have yet to advance past the Round of 16, by a 7-6 aggregate score.
The hosts broke through first and leveled the aggregate scoring at 4-4 when Kevin Klíma beat Matthew Tomkins on the backhand on a partial breakaway four minutes into the opening frame. Moments later on the man-advantage, Cingel buried it off a beautiful behind-the-net feed from Jakub Lev to make it 2-0 and give Mountfield the aggregate advantage.
Tomkins continued to be tested in the latter stage of the period, facing 15 shots while Henri Kiviaho stopped all nine that came his way to close out the period.
Mountfield padded their lead eight minutes into the middle stanza when Radek Pilař roofed the puck over Tomkins to secure his team's third goal of the night and his first-ever CHL tally. Pilař forced a turnover in the neutral zone before gaining possession and skating into the right circle where he fired it top shelf to give his team a 6-4 aggregate lead.
Near the closing minutes of the second period, the Czechs held a decisive edge in shot efficiency with 14.29% to Färjestad's 0% as Mountfield maintained sustained pressure in the offensive zone. But it would be the away team that found the net next when Oscar Lawner wristed one past Kiviaho to halve the deficit to 6-5 at 36:23.
An Oliver Okuliar penalty late in the third gave the Swedes their fourth powerplay on the night which they used to even the score as Michael Lindqvist let go a one-timer that sizzled past the Finnish netminder to make it 6-6 on aggregate.
With neither side managing to find the net as the final horn sounded, a 10-minute, 3-on-3 OT session was needed.
End-to-end action continued in the extra session where Cingel secured his second of the contest in dramatic fashion sending the home crowd to their feet as Mountfield overcame Färjestad to move on to the CHL Quarter-Finals.
