- Nicolai Meyer had a two-assist night
- Ludvig Larsson scored his second of the season
- Salzburg hand Rögle their first loss of the season
Mario Huber secured the game-winner and Atte Tolvanen made 25 saves as Red Bull Salzburg handed Rögle Ängelholm their first loss of the season, earning a 3-1 aggregate score in their First Game of the Round of 16.
Shots were 5-3 following the first 20 minutes as both Calle Clang and Tolvanen weren't put to the test too often, but were up to the task when they needed to be, resulting in a scoreless first period.
Tolvanen was the busier of the two, fending off a Rögle powerplay 12 minutes in after Luca Auer got into a scrum with fellow Austrian Marco Kasper leading to the first powerplay of the night. Salzburg's excellent penalty kill numbers from Group Stage play continued with the hosts able to stave off the Swedes' attack and keep the scoreboard blank.
Closing in on the halfway mark of the second period, it was Dennis Robertson who drew first blood and gave Salzburg the lead on a shot from the point. Following a faceoff win, Nicolai Meyer earned his first of two assists when he slid it back to the defenceman who corralled the puck near the blueline before letting it go for his first marker of the tournament.
Rögle would tie it up with less than two minutes to go in the middle frame when Ludvig Larsson capitalised on some beautiful passing on the powerplay. Kim Rosdahl found Oskar Stål Lyrenäs who backhanded it to Larsson who ripped it to the back of the net to give his team some life heading into the second intermission.
Five minutes into the third, Salzburg reclaimed the lead with a powerplay tally of their own. Huber wasted no time in converting the man-advantage when he fired a shot from the point that beat Clang glove side. Meyer earned his second assist of the night on Huber's goal as the hosts took a 2-1 advantage.
The hosts extended their lead in the closing minutes of the contest as Peter Schneider found a streaking Benjamin Nissner who wristed it past the Swedish goalie. With their third tuck, the Austrians will take a 3-1 aggregate advantage heading into their Return Game in Sweden.
