David Zabolotny and Comarch Cracovia orchestrated an upset in Poland as the hosts went on to defeat top team Färjestad Karlstad by a final of 4-3 and claim their second victory in their last game of their 2022/23 CHL campaign.

The Swedish side began their rematch against Cracovia in an almost identical fashion to their first fixture with Anton Berglund scoring early to give the Swedes a 1-0 lead. Marcus Nilsson set the puck up on a tee for Berglund who skated into the shot before wiring it past Zabolotny, who made his CHL debut, at 3:19 of the initial stanza.

The similarities ended there, however, as Cracovia would find a quick answer when Saku Kinnunen netted his second of the season on the powerplay five minutes later. Max Lindroth was called for hooking, awarding the Polish side their first powerplay which they used to great effect.

Scoring picked up with Färjestad retaking the lead less than two minutes later when Victor Ejdsell cleaned up a rebound in front, and Nilsson notched his second assist, to make it 2-1 with nine minutes gone in the opening period.

Still trailing by one to start the second, the hosts would find themselves down a man five minutes in but Cracovia's penalty kill was able to stave off the ensuing powerplay. Their efforts were rewarded a few minutes later with a wrister from Martin Kasperlík to even things up at 2 near the midway mark.

The middle frame continued to be good to the Poles as they took their first lead of the game at 36:55. Marek Račuk received a pass from Kasperlík, skated through the right circle and lifted a backhand by Dennis Hildeby to make it 3-2.

Cracovia lit the lamp for a fourth time when defenceman Patrik Husák jumped up on the play and beat Hildeby glove side from the slot to extend his club's lead by two eight minutes into the third.

Färjestad, however, would make the hosts pay on the powerplay when Joel Nyström one-timed one past the netminder to close the gap to one goal with five minutes to play in regulation.

In a desperate bid to find the equaliser, the visitors pulled their netminder in the dying minutes in favour of the extra attacker. A late penalty by Husák made it 6-on-4, but the hosts were able to defend their lead and spoil the Swedes' trip to Poland to finish off their CHL season in spectacular style, pulling off a David vs Goliath-like win.
