- Jukurit's top scorers on full display
- Aalborg can't repeat comeback win
- Three goals in the final five minutes
The team from Mikkeli came into the game with an 83% expected win rate and a 3.66 goals expected and delivered as Jukurit Mikkeli scored five to take down the Aalborg Pirates and close the gap between their Group A rivals.
Puck dropped in the first and the Finnish were up in a flash, finding the net just 23 seconds in. Pekka Jormakka secured his second tally of the tournament when a blast from the point found its way through traffic and on the Finn's stick to give his team the early edge.
Moments later a 5-on-3 for the home side wouldn't go the way they wanted as the visitors hit their mark, scoring a shorthanded goal to deadlock the score at one each. Andreas Nielsson was gifted a one-on-one with Jukurit's Frans Tuohimaa and buried it high glove.
But the hosts would have their own highlight reel goal - a backhander on a breakaway - as Niko Huuhtanen separated himself from the Danish defenders and deked around Thomas Lillie to reclaim the lead for Jukurit.
Down by one to start the second, the Danes found the equaliser on a backhand tally from Patrick Bjorkstrand six and a half minutes into the middle stanza. Aalborg's leading scorer from last season skated wide down the right side before shoveling it behind Tuohimaa for his first of the CHL campaign.
Then, at 30:52, Jukurit were awarded their fifth powerplay and at 32:24 they were awarded their third goal as Jormakka struck again, this time on the man-advantage.
A flurry of goals in the final five were the highlight of the third as both sides broke through to make it interesting.
First up, it was Jukurit's Daniel Mäkiaho who snuck one five-hole to give the hosts a two-goal cushion.
Aalborg attempted a comeback, cutting the deficit to one at 56:33 when Oskar Drugge sailed one from the point past Tuohimaa.
But not even ten seconds after they lit the lamp, the Finns came right back to pad their lead when Ondřej Kovařčík cleaned up the rebound in front.
With the final seconds slipping away, the visitors did their best to even things, but Jukurit matched their intensity to take the match by a 5-3 final.
