- Katowice fail to grab a home win
- Fehérvár snatch first CHL win and points
- Janos Hari scored first and final goal for Fehérvár
Things got off to a nice start as GKS Katowice welcomed Fehérvár AV19 for their first face-off, with the home team taking some swift shots straight from the buzzer. Yet, it was the away team that got the first one passed the net at 7:44 thanks to Janos Hari and Andrew O’Brien with the assist.
Katowice were hungry for a quick equaliser but no such luck was in store for them as the first period ended with them playing a man down and with a 1-0 lead for Fehérvár.
The second frame started with a penalty for too many men for the away team. Katowice soon followed with Mateusz Bepierszcz sent to the bin for high-sticking. The Hungarians would make the most of their man advantage, snatching the game’s first powerplay goal by Brett Findlay and Alexander Petan with the assist.
Akos Mihaly brought a 3-0 lead for Fehérvár at the 25:36 mark, but just seconds later Henrik Nilsson was called for tripping, giving Katowice the moment they desperately needed to get something going. And that’s exactly what they did, with Teemu Pulkkinen getting the home team on the board.
The rest of the middle frame saw plenty of penalties called on both sides, but the score stayed put until Bartosz Fraszko brought Katowice a bit closer with a shorthanded goal, wrapping up the second period with a 3-2 lead for the away team.
It would be Janos Hari with the first and then final goal for Fehérvár as he closed out the final frame with an empty-netter to seal his side's solid 4-2 win over the Poles.
