- Radovan Pavlík scored twice for Mountfield
- Grenoble trailed behind on shots taken
- Mountfield gave up all powerplay advantages
Mountfield HK finally played their first home game, hosting Grenoble in their second face-off. The first few minutes of the opening period welcomed the first powerplay for Grenoble, with Mountfield’s Graeme McCormack called for tripping.
Grenoble’s Joel Champagne was able to open the scoring, giving the away team their first goal at 6:26, demonstrating that the French team may have taken some lessons from their first two losses with them into their third match.
The next powerplay was called on Grenoble’s Floran Douay for high-sticking, but Mountfield was unable to find an opening, despite good efforts. In fact, Jakub Stepánek exhibited his massive talent, with a superb save against Nikita Sčerbak, who managed to toss a beautiful puck right out in front of the net.
As the first period came to a close, Grenoble were in the lead 1-0 as the home team missed the chance to score the equaliser.
Mountfield started the second period with 1:30 left on the power play but failed to capitalise on their advantage. Yet, as the pressure to get something going grew, Radovan Pavlík was able to get the home team on the scoreboard, with the assist by Martin Stohanzl and Oliver Okuliar at 22:16.
With Mountfield keeping the pressure high in the second half of the second period, Oliver Okuliar drove one home all the way from the blue line giving the home team the 2-1 advantage.
On a brilliant individual attempt, Radovan Pavlík got his second one into the back of the net, but not without Grenoble’s netminder, Jakub Stepánek, taking a nasty, albeit innocent hit to the neck.
Opportunity came knocking for Grenoble to get something going with Radek Smolenák called for holding, but no such luck. The away team would close the second period with only one shot on goal, to Mountfield’s thirteen in the second frame.
Just as things looked set for Mountfield, Nicolas Deschamps closed the gap, adding a powerplay goal for Grenoble at the top of the final period.
In a last attempt for Grenoble to catch up, netminder Stepanek was pulled, giving them an extra offensive hand. A powerplay was also on their side, with the six-on-four advantage, yet the gap would prove too wide for Grenoble to close, giving Mountfield their second win against Grenoble this time with a 3-2 final.
