- Skellefteå outshot Färjestad 30-27
Färjestad Karlstad returned the favour of playing host to their fellow countrymen Skellefteå AIK in their second Quarter-Finals clash. The home team entered the game with a one-goal advantage, as the scoreboard displayed 4-3 at the end of last week's game. It's worth noting that Skellefteå controlled the previous encounter but struggled to capitalise. If they aimed for a spot in the Semi-Finals, that would have to change and they really stepped up!
The away team started the opening period on fire, as they controlled the first minutes of gameplay. Their efforts paid off with the reward of drawing first blood when Canadian forward Dylan Sikura took matters into his own hands to make the game even on aggregate.
However, Skellefteå couldn't maintain their clean play, resulting in two penalties within a span of just three minutes. While they successfully navigated through the first powerplay, they weren’t as fortunate with the second one. Linus Johansson was the lucky shooter that banged in the puck. As a result, the visitors found themselves playing catch-up once again.
The second period saw plenty of shots and goal-scoring opportunities from both teams, but no new goals made their way onto the scoreboard.
Skellefteå truly shined in the closing period. Elias Stenman was responsible for the aggregate equaliser, unleashing a perfectly aimed shot into the top right corner of the goal.
Oskar Nilsson then found the back of the net at 54:20, although the goal was contested due to contact with the goaltender, the referee ruled it a good goal, putting Skellefteå in the driver’s seat.
With less than two minutes remaining, Nilsson sealed Skellefteå’s victory by sending the puck flying down the ice into the empty net.
Färjestad fought until the last seconds, but as the final buzzer sounded, Skellefteå secured their place in the Semi-Finals against Czech side Vítkovice Ridera.
