- Skellåftea's Lukas Vesterlund scored the opening goal with 13 seconds remaining in the first period
- Innsbruck equalised in the second period with a powerplay goal
- Skellefteå outshot Innsbruck 49-13
Axel Sandin-Pellika scored the game-winning goal in Skellefteå's 4-2 victory over HC Innsbruck. The win in regulation on Game Day 6 bumps Skellefteås tally to 12 points, while Innsbruck's nine will remain, however, both teams have earned a berth into the Champions Hockey League Playoffs.
Visitors Skellefteå may have had the bulk of the puck possession during the opening 20 minutes, but it was an almost scoreless affair until Lukas Vesterlund scored with 13 seconds remaining in the first period. The 19-year-old blueliner slipped through the radar of Innsbruck's defence, tapping the puck past the goal line, off a beautiful feed from linemate Dylan Sikura.
Innsbruck netminder Markus Gratzer made his CHL debut stopping 45 shots on the evening, including a sensational glove save on Anton Heikkinen, who released an early one-timer from the high slot.
A Skellefteå penalty in the dying seconds of the first period would see the hosts kick off the second stanza with just under two minutes of man-advantage play. With one second remaining in the powerplay, a pass from American defender Nicholas Albano saw Senna Peeters rocket in a one-timer which sailed over the shoulder of netminder Gustaf Lindvall to make it 1-1.
There were moments of total domination by the Swedes, but for all their control in the zone, the finishing touch was not coming easily. Forward Linus Lindström finally found the magic at 35:29 with a wrist shot from the top of the circle, off a pass from Filip Sandberg to double the lead for his side, 2-1.
There was a shark-week resurgence as hosts Innsbruck came flying out of the gates in the third period looking to cut the lead of the visitors. Skellefteå responded swiftly. A backhand pass collected by blueliner Axel Sandin-Pellika was shovelled past Gratzer to make it 3-1 for the Swedes.
Not to be outdone, a wrist shot from Innsbruck's Kele Steffler at 49:57 somehow snuck past Lindvall to keep the Austrians' hopes of a comeback win alive, but an ill-timed and unfortunate penalty from Innsbruck would see Skellefteå awarded their first powerplay of the night. Despite a solid peppering, Gratzer was brilliant staving off several close calls.
With the penalty-kill over, and the clock ticking, Innsbuck pulled their goalie in a last push to equalise, but Pär Lindholm would find the empty net to seal the game for the Swedes 4-2.
