- Mannheim hand Lukko first loss of the season
- Lukko went 0-for-4 on the man-advantage
- Felix Brückmann made 30 saves to secure his first shutout
A dominant display by Adler Mannheim saw them put six past Lukko Rauma as the Finns went on to drop their first contest of the Regular Season 6-0. Felix Brückmann earned his first shutout stopping all 30 shots in the win.
The visitors produced an impressive opening period, scoring three goals despite some disciplinary issues that saw them down a man three times through the first 20 minutes.
The Germans wasted no time getting on the board as they managed to tuck the puck in 23 seconds into the contest. A forced turnover in the offensive zone resulted in the puck finding its way towards net where Kris Bennett was there to pounce on it and put it past Lukko's Samuel Harvey.
Mannheim made it 2-0 off the stick of Daniel Fischbuch at 12:46. Fischbuch parked himself at the top of the crease and wristed one past the Canadian netminder to give his side a two-goal cushion. Then with under three minutes to go, the Germans added their third from Linden Vey who tapped home a loose puck between the pads of Harvey to claim his first goal of the tournament.
As the puck dropped in the second period, Lukko found themselves in unfamiliar territory, down by multiple tallies for the first time of the season.
The Finnish upped their pressure, but their intensity backfired as it gave Mannheim their first man-advantage of the contest at 20:19.
The hosts' penalty kill handled the powerplay, however, as play pressed on with an otherwise quiet middle frame coming to a close and the scoreboard still reading 3-0 in favour of the visitors.
Mannheim's offence continued to click in the third as Stefan Loibl and Korbinian Holzer generated two quick tallies to begin the final frame.
Loibl got control of the puck before dekeing around Harvey with a forehand backhand move that beat the netminder in close. Holzer followed up with a finesse move around a Lukko skater that he then slid through the wickets of the goalie to give his team a 5-0 advantage.
David Wolf would make it 6-0 as he wired one far side over the glove with a little more than six minutes to play in regulation.
Late in the period, Lukko continued to occupy the offensive zone, but Mannheim's excellent defence, which is averaging just 2.00 goals against per game, was out in full force - frustrating the Finns' chances and taking away their time and space. Mannheim started early and never let up as they secured their third win in four tries.
