- Back-to-back road wins for Växjö
- Stavanger open the scoring 56 seconds in
- Both squads scored four in the third
An eight-goal third culminated in a five-round shootout that saw the Växjö Lakers stay perfect on the road with a 7-6 win over the Stavanger Oilers at the DNB Arena. Noah Östlund deposited the game-winner as the Swedish side claimed three more points in this back-and-forth derby.
An opening-minute marker got the hosts on the board just 56 seconds into the contest. Stavanger established themselves in the offensive zone as Christoffer Karlsen set up shop in front of the net and rifled a one-timer past Adam Åhman.
The scoring continued as Marcus Sylvegård found the equaliser for the Swedes at 7:53. Sylvegård received a pass at the top of the far circle before skating above the dot and picking his spot glove-side high over Henrik Holm to notch his second goal of the season.
Play picked up in the second with the Swedes taking their first lead of the afternoon.
Crisp passing from 18-year-old Jakub Štancl, who hadn't played in the club's first fixture, led to a shot from the point from captain Joel Persson that found its way through traffic and past Holm.
Near the midway mark of the second, it was Stavanger's turn to light the lamp when a failed clearing attempt allowed Andreas Klavestad to scoop the puck up near the blueline where it eventually made its way onto the stick of Nick Dineen who jammed it just beyond the pads of Åhman to make it 2-2.
The third stanza began with this 2-2 contest quickly becoming a 3-2 game as the Swedes secured their first of four goals 49 seconds in when Östlund got his stick on a shot that found its way into the Norwegians' net. Växjö's top scorer Joachim Blichfeld extended his club's lead seconds later on a beautiful individual effort followed by Filip Eriksson's first of the tournament. Persson netted the visitors' sixth marker and his second goal of the game at 51:29 to make it 6-2.
The hosts, however, continued to claw their way back with two tallies in the span of two minutes. The first came from Simon Bourque followed by Sondre Bjerke to make it a 6-4 game late in the third.
With a little more than two minutes to play, it was the Norwegians who scored again as Anders Henriksen potted Stavanger's third of the period to reduce the goal difference back down to one with a delayed penalty following to put the home side on the powerplay with a chance to even it up which is exactly what they did. André Strandborg fired a shot from the right circle that sent the fans into a frenzy as the home side completed the comeback to tie it 6-6.
Following 60 minutes and the extra session, the score was knotted at 6-6 making way for the shootout where Växjö's Östlund dashed the home fans' hope of a win with a goal to secure the victory.
