Grenoble staged a monumental comeback to beat Eisbären Berlin on Game Day 4 of the Champions Hockey League. The French side showed grit. clawing their way back into the game after a lacklustre first period. Grenoble equalised twice, went to OT and then a shootout, where they'd clinch the win. The game was a special teams surge, with seven powerplay goals. Genoble Captain Sacha Treille put on a phenomenal four-point (3G, 1A) performance, including netting the game winner.
Berlin struck 1:58 into the opening frame with a crisp powerplay goal. Liam Kirk hammered home a blueline blast off a clean setup from Mitchell Reinke, setting the tone early for the German side. A second powerplay goal followed at 7:16 thanks to Marcel Noebels, who drilled a low wristshot past Matija Pintarič, widening the gap 2-0 by the close of the period.
With the second period underway, and a residual powerplay in effect, Canadian forward Ty Ronning extended the lead to 3-0 for the home side with a wrist shot 46 seconds into the play. The tables turned after a high-sticking call on Jonas Müller and Grenoble pounced.
Treille potted the first, followed by François Beauchemin, and Trellie again with the 3-3 equaliser on Jake Hildebrand. Blaine Byron cut their celebrations short when he cashed in PPG number four to put Berlin ahead.
Third-period salvation came through Grenoble's Valentin Grossetete, who found the back of the net to equalise 4-4 and force the game into OT where neither goalie would yield after five minutes of intense play. Heading into the shootout, Grenoble's Aurélien Dair and François Beauchemin each struck the back of the net, but the icing on the cake came through Sacha Treille who netted the winner to secure the 5-4 win.
