- Storhamar gain ground in the standings with second victory
- Brynäs suffered only their second loss of the competition
- Markus Røhnebæk Stensrud stopped 25 of 26 shots for Storhamar
Norwegian challengers Storhamar Hamar played spoiler as they staved off Swedish powerhouse Brynäs IF in the final seconds to claim a 2-1 win. Despite the loss, Brynäs retain a decent place in the Regular Season Standings thanks to their three wins, while Storhamar have breached the top 16.
Marcus Bryhnisveen gave the visitors the lead fourteen minutes into the game when he sailed one far side from just inside the right circle to notch his second of the season. The play began when Olle Liss picked up the puck along the boards below the red line, Liss safeguarded it until he found Bryhnisveen who got down on one knee to rip it past Collin Delia to make it 1-0.
The Norwegians' netminder found another level in the middle frame as Markus Røhnebæk Stensrud was able to deny every chance the Swedes fired his way. Late in the second, Storhamar went on the powerplay with a chance to extend their lead, but Brynäs were able to quash the visitors' advantage and keep the deficit at one goal.
Nearly seven minutes into the final stanza, Tyler Vesel was the recipient of a slick feed from Lucas Pettersson, who outmaneuvred a Storhamar defenceman and then slid it cross ice to Vesel, who wired it into the net to give the Swedes the equaliser.
Moments later, however, it was Storhamar re-taking the lead when Colin Campbell deposited a loose puck past Delia. Defenceman Martin Rønnild made the initial shot from the point that bounced around in the crease before Campbell found it and put it home to restore their advantage.
At the 2-minute mark, the Swedes pulled their netminder, but it would be to no effect as Storhamar was able to brave Brynäs' relentless pressure, featuring a jaw-dropping stop from Røhnebæk Stensrud in the final seconds, to achieve their second win.
