- Filip Cederqvist opened scoring in goal-filled second period
- Visitors pushed but failed to find equaliser in third period
- Frölunda advance to the Semi-Finals
ERC Ingolstadt travelled to Sweden to face Frölunda Gothenburg in the Return Game of their Champions Hockey League Quarter-Final series. Although the Swedes held the advantage from the First Game, the tie was far from settled heading into the decisive night.
The opening period passed without a goal, despite both teams creating a handful of promising chances. Neither side managed to find a breakthrough, but Frölunda’s 3-1 aggregate lead from the First Game meant the hosts edged a step closer to the Semi-Finals as the teams headed to the intermission.
The game came alive in the second period. Frölunda struck first at 26:44 through Filip Cederqvist, increasing their aggregate advantage. Ingolstadt responded soon after on the powerplay, but the initial goal was overturned following a video review. The Germans stayed on the front foot, though, and were rewarded moments later. Leon Hüttl picked up the puck at the blue line and fired a wrist shot toward goal.
Lars Johansson had a clear sightline, but a deflection off a Frölunda defenceman changed the puck’s direction and sent it past the goaltender. Ingolstadt added another goal shortly after, cutting the aggregate deficit to just one and injecting real tension into the series.
However, the third period did not bring the same success for the visitors. Despite their efforts, Ingolstadt were unable to find another goal. Frölunda, on the other hand, sealed the outcome late on. At 59:44, Max Lindholm fired into the empty net to close the scoring and extinguish any remaining hopes of a comeback.
With the final buzzer sounding, Frölunda Gothenburg secured their place in the Semi-Finals, advancing on aggregate after a composed performance on home ice.
