Grenoble had a tough time containing EV Zug on Game Day 2 of the 2025/26 Champions Hockey League season. The French hosts went down 5-1, making it their second straight loss, while the Swiss contenders collected back-to-back wins on the road.
Dominik Kubalík put Zug on the scoreboard less than three minutes into the opening period. Nando Eggenberger orchestrated the play, feeding the Czech forward, who one-timed it past netminder Matija Pintarič. The homeside found their rythm half way through the period, managing several close but unsuccessful attempts on the doorstep of netminder Tim Wolf.
The visitors stretched their lead minutes before the close of the period, netting two quick goals in succession. The first, a wrist shot from Sven Leuenberger that somehow toppled out of Pintarič's glove, and the second, a stunning one-timer by Grégory Hofmann.
Second-period action saw the visitors pick up their first powerplay goal of the evening, courtesy of Sven Senteler who chipped the puck high to make it 4-0.
Heading into the third period, Grenoble pressured early with renewed strength, while Zug paced the game down. At 44:12, David Sklenička extended the lead to 5-0, extinguishing any hopes of a comeback.
Success finally found Grenoble at 50:52 through Guillaume Leclerc, who sent the puck high over the left shoulder of Wolf, earning a rowdy applause from the crowd. The two sides continued to exchange chances in the dying minutes, but the bell would ultimately sound 5-1 in favour of Zug.
