- Ingolstadt went 0-for-7 on the man-advantage
Finnish side KalPa Kuopio claimed back-to-back road wins to begin their 2025/26 Champions Hockey League campaign as they defeated ERC Ingolstadt by a 4-1 final. Despite drawing first blood, the hosts were unable to battle back as the visitors went on to net four unanswered goals.
Ingolstadt's Daniel Pietta secured his first of the season when he was set up by Alex Breton to give his side an early 1-0 advantage. Breton found Pietta who scorched it past Stefanos Lekkas from the far circle.
Then in the second, KalPa manufactured two goals in quick succession. Cade Borchardt evened things at 1-1 when he nabbed the puck from a defender near the top of the crease and slid it past an unsuspecting Devin Williams. Juuso Mäenpää gave the Finns the lead 14 seconds later when he skated in on a breakaway and beat the netminder glove side.
Third period action got underway with Ingolstadt going on their fifth powerplay of the contest, but an inability to generate any sustained pressure foiled any attempt at securing the equaliser. The Germans' best chance came with a point-blank shot in the slot, but Lekkas fended it off with his right pad.
Late in the frame, the Germans would go back to the powerplay, but a solid defensive effort from KalPa increased their lead to three goals when Konsta Kapanen scored two late tallies - first converting on a 2-on-1 on the penalty kill and then adding an empty-netter. This cemented the Finns' second victory while Ingolstadt fell to 0-2 on the season.
