- Ingolstadt's offence was not to be denied
- Odense bow out of the season
- Shot totals 41 to 22 in favour of Ingolstadt
The price of admission was fully earned as fans of ERC Ingolstadt saw them dismantle the Danes, toppling the Odense Bulldogs 8-2. Several players recorded multiple points on the night while Brett Brochu turned aside 20 of 22 shots.
Right place, right time led to Odense taking the lead on the powerplay when Jonathan Brinkman Andersen shovelled home a rebound that bounced off the pads of Brett Brochu.
The Germans answered back with a pair of tallies from Abbott Girduckis. The 30-year-old found the equaliser a little over four minutes later when he coddled the puck and patiently outwaited a sprawling Niklas Lundström before roofing it far bar down. He registered his second when he whipped home a feed from Jakin Smallwood at 14:21, giving Ingolstadt the lead.
Action in the second period picked up with the Germans adding another tally to their total. This time, it was Riley Sheen scoring just 1:38 in when he capitalised on a cross-crease feed from Austen Keating. Girduckis notched his third point with the secondary assist on Sheen's marker.
Some friendly fire led to the Danes cutting into the deficit when Sebastian Fakt guided the puck towards the crease as it slid underneath and in behind Brochu, where an Ingolstadt defenceman attempted to swat it out of the crease but accidentally put it into his own net.
The hosts would regain their two-goal lead when good defence led to even better offence as Sam Ruopp sprung Kenny Agostino and Daniel Pietta on a 2-on-1 with Pietta directing one past Lundström. Riley Barber then made it 5-2 with a seeing-eye shot through traffic.
Ingolstadt continued lighting the lamp in the third. Peter Abbandonato scored early on in the frame, then Pietta added a seventh tuck on the powerplay, and finally Morgan Ellis contributed another powerplay marker to make it 8-2 to close out the contest.
