- Riley Barber: 3 goals, 1 assist for Ingolstadt
- Tyler Lewington: 22:18 TOI, 1 goal for Salzburg
- Ingolstadt outshot Salzburg 38-20
Riley Barber scored three goals and Philipp Krauß struck twice, helping ERC Ingolstadt to a 6-2 win over Red Bull Salzburg in their home half of this Round of 16 match-up.
Barber opened the scoring just past the five-minute mark, working a give-and-go with Peter Abbandonato before unleashing a deadly wrist shot that went off the post and in.
Salzburg tied it in the 14th minute while the teams were skating 4-on-4 when Tyler Lewington’s shot from the top of the right circle went off Nico Pertuch’s blocker and in.
A minute later, however, Ingolstadt regained the lead and then added another goal shortly after that. With the teams again at 4-on-4, Krauß notched the go-ahead marker off the rush, re-directing Peter Spornberger’s feed. Then 31 seconds later, in the same 4-on-4 situation, Myles Powell scored the eventual game-winner on a rebound to make it 3-1.
Ingolstadt widened their lead with the only goal of the middle frame. It came on the powerplay just shy of the 35th minute on another brilliant flick of the wrists by Barber, his second tally of the game.
Salzburg drew closer early in the third when Lukas Daniel Hörl one-timed a feed from Thomas Raffl from close range.
But any momentum that the Austrian champs might have hoped to get from that was negated by Krauß’s second of the game on a rebound just 54 seconds later.
With less than seven minutes of play, Barber completed his hattrick with another long-range wrist shot, this one on a 5-on-3 advantage, to give his team a four-goal lead heading to Austria next week.
