- Eric Hördler puts Berlin ahead late in the first
- Momentum shifts to Klagenfurt in the second period
- Third period turns into a defensive battle for Klagenfurt
KAC Klagenfurt faced Eisbären Berlin on home ice at the Heidi Horten-Arena on Game Day 2 of the Champions Hockey League. The Austrians were chasing their first win of the campaign, while the Germans looked to build on three points from their opening game. In the end, it was a hard-fought contest that went Klagenfurt’s way.
The first period was tightly contested until the final minute, when Berlin’s Eric Hördler broke the deadlock with a quick shot from the slot. The visitors kept pressing, even striking the post behind Sebastian Dahm in the closing seconds, but Klagenfurt escaped the frame down just 1–0.
The second period brought far more action and goals. Just three minutes in, Nicholas Petersen tied the game, before Mathias From gave Klagenfurt their first lead of the night. Berlin responded at 32:37, with Leonhard Pföderl converting on the powerplay to level things again. The hosts then answered before the break, as Luka Gomboc finished off a slick powerplay sequence to restore Klagenfurt’s advantage at 3–2 after 40 minutes.
The third period was all about Klagenfurt protecting their lead. They held firm, though not without a scare, as Liam Kirk rang the post in the closing seconds. Ultimately, the Austrians stood tall and secured their first three points of the season.
