- Finnish champions took control from the start
- Storhamar struggled to create clear scoring chances
- KalPa remain unbeaten
KalPa Kuopio hosted Norway’s Storhamar Hamar on Game Day 3 of the Champions Hockey League. With KalPa looking to extend their perfect record and Storhamar hoping to find form, the match-up promised plenty.
The first period was all KalPa, as the Finnish champions showed their quality and fully deserved a 2–0 lead. Teemu Hartikainen opened the scoring at 2:19 by finishing off a powerplay move, before Juuso Könönen added the second in the eighth minute, set up in front of an open net by defenceman Juuso Ketola. Storhamar, meanwhile, failed to create any serious chances over the opening twenty minutes.
By the end of the second period, KalPa were firmly in control at 5–1. Konsta Kapanen extended the advantage to 3–0, though Jacob Berglund briefly lifted the Norwegians with a well-taken breakaway goal. The hosts quickly regained command, however, as Hartikainen struck for his second of the night and Cade Borchardt converted a two-on-one just 32 seconds later.
The final frame followed the same pattern. Juuso Mäenpää, left completely unmarked in the slot, fired an unstoppable shot off the crossbar and in to make it 6–1. That proved to be the last word, as the buzzer confirmed a commanding win and kept KalPa’s perfect record intact.
