- Tomáš Zohorna: 2 assists for Kometa
- Jakob Silfverberg: 6 shots on goal for Brynäs
- Brynäs outshot Kometa 28-24
In a match-up of two teams with talented rosters, Czech champions Kometa Brno defeated Swedish finalists Brynäs IF 4-1 on home ice.
Brynäs outshot Kometa 28-24 in the game, but Kometa were more opportunistic on their chances and got 27 saves from Aleš Stezka. His most frequent victim was veteran Jakob Silfverberg, who was stopped six times.
After killing off an early penalty, Kometa opened the scoring just shy of the six-minute mark following a turnover along the boards. Danny Chudil fed Jan Ekrt, who put the finishing touch.
Kometa struck twice more in the first six minutes of the second period to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
First, with the teams skating 4-on-4, it was defenceman Libor Zabranský jumping into the rush, finishing a give-and-go with Tomáš Zohorna off the rush.
Then, less than two minutes later, it was another Brynäs giveaway in their own zone followed by some Zohorna magic. The brothers passed back and forth a couple of times, with Hynek Zohorna going to the net and converting the pass from Tomáš – his second assist.
In the 34th minute, Brynäs finally got on the board. On a 2-on-1 rush, Linus Ölund slid the puck across to Jack Kopacka, who one-timed it home.
Kometa played defensively for much of the third period but the dangerous Brynäs offence was given a chance on the powerplay with 9:50 remaining but nothing came of it.
In the dying minutes, Brynäs started gambling and pulled Collin Delia with almost four minutes to play. However, this led to Šimon Stránský scoring an empty-netter with 2:59 left – effectively sealing the victory.
