- Luleå win 9-6 on aggregate, advance to Quarter-Finals
- Kometa reduced aggregate deficit to three multiple times in game
- Šimon Stránský: 1 goal, 1 assist for Kometa
Kometa Brno entered the Return Game with a five-goal hill to climb on aggregate score. They managed to reduce it to three on three occasions, but Luleå Hockey were able to prevent it from getting closer. Kometa won the game 5-3, but Luleå are off to the Quarter-Finals.
During an evenly-played first period, Kometa struck first in the game. In the 12th minute, Adam Zbořil jumped on a blind backhand pass in the Luleå zone. Matteus Ward got a piece of his shot from in close, but the puck just slid across the goal line.
In the dying seconds of the opening period, Kometa very nearly reduced their aggregate deficit to three, but Denis Svoboda rang a shot off the goalpost.
In the second period, however, Luleå really started to come on. In the 28th minute, they broke into the Kometa zone 3-on-3 and Isac Hedqvist finished off a three-way passing play with a wrist shot from the high slot that found the net to tie the game score and restore their five-goal aggregate lead.
Six minutes later, Kometa regained the lead in the game. Luleå were unable to clear the zone and Michal Furch shot a bouncing puck and knuckled past Ward and in the net.
In the first minute of the third period, Kometa made things interesting when Marek Ďaloga scored on a breakaway to reduce the aggregate deficit to three again, all with still 19 minutes to play.
Five minutes later, Heikki Liedes got one back for Luleå on a goalmouth scramble after Jan Kavan was unable to cover the puck, but Jakub Kos quickly replied for Kometa off the rush just 10 seconds later.
Kometa might have had thoughts about a late push, but Pontus Andreasson’s deflection goal with 10:50 remaining seemed to take the wind out of their sails.
Šimon Stránský’s empty-netter with 19 seconds left got them closer again, but there was no time for any more.
