- Luleå scored five unanswered goals in the third
- Kometa's late collapse in the defensive end was costly
- Six different players netted a goal for the Swedes
Luleå Hockey punctured Kometa Brno's lead in the second and then turned it into a gaping wound as the hosts helped themselves to a five-goal aggregate lead in a 6-1 affair that saw the Swedes net five unanswered tallies in the final stanza.
David Moravec made it 1-0 in favour of the visitors just 1:44 into the contest when he retrieved a pass in the neutral zone before speeding into the offensive end and rocketing it over the glove of Matteus Ward to register his fourth tuck of the tournament.
Kometa's Gašper Krošelj was sharp through the first 20 minutes as the netminder managed to make several superb saves, including a couple on the Swedes' first powerplay of the night, to maintain his club's one-goal advantage.
The Czechs saw their early lead disappear when Luleå manufactured an early tally of their own when a fortuitous bounce landed on the stick of Anton Levtchi, who slid it home to knot things at 1-1. Filip Eriksson's initial snap pass pinballed off a skate in front and found its way to Levtchi, who deposited the puck into the yawning cage.
As play continued in the middle stanza, the Swedes did everything save take the lead as the opposing netminder continued to pose a challenge for the home side. Kometa didn't fare any better as they were unable to take advantage of their backstop's excellent play, leaving the score level at 1-1 as the clubs headed for their respective locker rooms.
Jan Ondráček took control of the crease for the Czechs in the third and was peppered with shots following puck drop. Luleå's efforts paid off when they took the lead with the go-ahead goal courtesy of William Håkansson. David Granberg dished a backhand feed from below the red line to the defenceman who wired a one-timer near side. The Swedes then added to their aggregate lead when Brian O'Neill banked a shot off the pads of Jan Ondráček.
Luleå maintained their momentum, notching a fourth marker from Markus Nurmi at 50:04 to increase the deficit to three goals and then Brendan Shinnimin made it a four-goal lead five minutes later, when Pontus Själin's tip-in sealed the Swedes' multi-goal advantage to a game that began as a close contest but ended in a decisive win, while Kometa were left licking their wounds.
