- Mountfield take first win of the tournament
- Bern were handed second-consecutive loss
- Lukáš Radil scored in OT for the Czechs
Mountfield HK were desperately looking for a win in any form and that's what they got, ending the game in the extra session thanks to Lukáš Radil who posted a goal and an assist on the night to help his team to their first win of the 2025/26 Champions Hockey League season. Despite the 3-2 loss, SC Bern were able to secure a point.
Following the first 20 minutes, it was Bern leading in shots 13-3, but a deft effort from Stanislav Škorvánek between the pipes kept the game knotted 0-0.
Miro Aaltonen had an opportunity to put his team on the board when he was awarded a penalty shot five minutes into the middle frame, but missed his mark.
It wouldn't be until the 37th minute of the contest that the deadlock was finally broken as Mountfield's Markus Nenonen converted ten seconds into their third powerplay to draw first blood. The forward slipped it backdoor past a diving Adam Reideborn to record his first of the campaign.
Bern made it 1-1 off the stick of Fabian Ritzmann who outmanoeuvered a defender behind the net before skating circling the back and sliding it towards the cage where it made its way past Škorvánek.
The Czechs took a 2-1 lead with a little over three minutes to play in regulation when Connor Bunnaman made no hesitation after receiving a pass from Radil to add another powerplay tally.
Moments later, however, it was the home team giving the home fans a jolt of energy when leading scorer Waltteri Merelä collected a loose puck, turned, and fired it past the netminder at 58:45. A review for goaltender interference ensued, but the call stood, knotting things at 2-2.
What followed in Overtime was nothing short of a sigh of relief for a Mountfield team, though, as they needed a victory to keep their hopes of a Round of 16 bid alive and Radil was the one to do it, securing the game-winner 1:42 into the extra time and with it the extra point.
