- Damian Clara: 27-save shutout for Brynäs
- Jack Kopacka: goals in back-to-back games for Brynäs
- Mountfield: 1 point from 2 home games so far
In a match-up between two teams that lost their openers, Brynäs IF shut out Mountfield HK 5-0 in Hradec Králové on Sunday afternoon. Anton Rödin, Jack Kopacka and Greg Scott had two points each for the victors, while Damian Clara made 27 saves for the shutout.
The win gives Brynäs a split of their two games in Czechia, while the loss puts Mountfield in a tight spot – taking only one of six points from their first two home games.
After an uninspiring performance on Friday, Brynäs got off to a strong start this game and scored twice in the first eight minutes.
The teams were skating 4-on-4 in the third minute when Tyler Vesel sent Lucas Pettersson in alone and he made a move to beat Filip Novotný.
Brynäs went up 2-0 on another breakaway – this one Rödin to Oskar Lindblom, who beat Novotný under the arm.
Italian national team goalie Clara's biggest save of the game might have been late in the first period when he robbed Martin Kohout from point-blank range. It was one of four shots on Clara from Kohout, which tied for the team lead in the game.
Just shy of the game’s 32-minute mark, once again a Brynäs forward was able to get behind the Mountfield defence and score. This time it was Kopacka, who scored the team’s only goal on Friday.
With a powerplay, Mountfield pulled Novotný to create a 6-on-4 advantage with four minutes to play, but Rödin scored a shorthanded empty-netter to remove any doubt that may have remained.
With Novotný back in net, Linus Ölund made it 5-0 with just 21 seconds to play.
